After the long winter it is nice to open the windows, do a deep clean, and start to organize the garage and basement that have been piling up during the cold months. You also probably notice that your calendar is starting to fill up more and more and all of a sudden, you’re booked until August. While you may have a boost in your social life, that doesn’t mean that you have to open the wallet a little extra for all areas and you can still try to save every little bit that you can.
Rent DIY Tools
The yardwork is probably your first task, especially if you have already fired up the lawnmower and noticed the backyard is in need of a little TLC after being neglected, well, since the fall. No matter the project you have in store, be sure to check out the rentable power tools so you do not have to plunk down the money, especially if you only plan to use once a year. You can spend a fraction of the price while still accomplishing your goal and not breaking the bank.
Entertain While You’re at It
When you do finally get the deck sanded and stained, flowers planted, and fresh mulch down, don’t forget to start entertaining at home to show off your hard work. Instead of going out to eat you can BBQ, or instead of spending all night at the bar, save the cost of a few rounds and host at your house over drinks and music instead of the bar costs. After call, cooking outside in the summer will save on the house getting hot from the oven or stove, and you get to be outside at the same time, which is always better than being stuck inside.
Don’t Forget to Program the Thermometer
As you are playing around with the temperature to make sure you’re comfortable sleeping, yet not having the A/C kick on every five minutes, make sure to program your thermostat so you don’t have to manually change it each time, risking keeping the house during the day the same temp as at night and sending your electric bill to spike. By setting it to stay a little warmer during the day and having it cool down as you are on your way home, not to mention more at night, you can enjoy peace of mind without constantly having to fiddle the setting up and down.
Cut the Cable Cord
Sure, I enjoy binge-watching as the next person, but in the warmer months I find myself having more of a hard time to start a show, especially since it’s getting dark later each night and leaves you more time to spend outdoors. You can still opt for a streaming service for around $10 a month that has the best shows anyways and cut the cable cord for now and see if you can get used to not having it around. You could be surprised and can enjoy watching the savings pile up every month.
